    Discussion

I've been on the Corepunk waiting list for a long time now and finally got an alpha key (as it seems many others also did). This game was exceedingly disappointing, even for an alpha.

Firstly, my game installer just seemed to freeze and took me several tries to get installed, and a lot of just waiting around while it seemed frozen (but I guess was doing something). Left to the gym and came back and eventually it showed the play button.

Character select was okay. Minimal customization but pretty standard.

Literally the first thing you hear in game is a very poor seemingly AI synthesized voice acting. Luckily that seemed to just be for the weird robot thing. The rest of the voice acting was OK. However I noticed maybe the 4th npc I talked to, one of the lines was clearly a different actor, or recorded totally inconsistent with the rest of her lines like they patched it in later.

The questing and guidance in this game is abysmal. There is hardly any indicator if someone is an NPC or not. Certainly no indicator that they have a quest for you.

I killed some enemies. The combat seemed decent, although a little slow. But I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to heal. My HP did not regenerate at all on it's own. I tried eating food (onion, cabbage) which did nothing. I asked in the chat and nobody helped at all. Eventually I found you can sit by a fire to heal. Or eat certain food, but you can't even do it during combat.

Finally, my player got stuck and I couldn't move. I tried to open the menu to report a bug (this is an alpha after all), and couldn't find anything. I then checked my alpha-key email for a place to submit bugs and found nothing. I exited the game. I eventually tried to log back in for another attempt but my character is still stuck in the same spot.

I eventually found out you can recall to a town which fixed my stuck character. I decided to go back to the start and do some quests I missed. I spent another 15 mins walking around without finding a single tree to collect items for the quest so I logged out.

I get this is an alpha, but it seemed very unpolished for a game that has been in development for 5 ish years by now. I really like the art style, but the game is EXTREMELY slow paced and grindy and they don't even have basic things like muting / reporting players spamming the chat.

    Summary of the Article
